Book Review:
If there was ever a book to break you out of a book slump, The Siren is it.
I have been in a major slump. I was in such a slump that I considered reading a completely different genre. I was seriously reading the blurbs of my Lisa Gardner books trying to figure out the last one I read. Yep, it was before I started keeping track on Goodreads. I decided to pick up my Kimber and looked through my ASAP collection and vaguely remembered a big to-do about this series. I decided to give it a go. Holy Shiznit.
Right from the very beginning this book stood out to me that This book was going to pull me out of my book slump. The book was engaging, an essence of morals being compromised, a promise to learn a thing or two and a big mystery that would need to be solved.
At first Zach told his boss he wanted nothing to do with Nora. He didn't want to publish her book. He had heard all types of things about her, from that she only wore red and other weird quirks. He wanted no part of it. Zach wanted legitimate books at his publishing house, not some guttersnipe. Even though he protests, J.P., his boss, tell him to meet her and make it happen.
During Zach's first meeting with Nora, she was quite the temptress, inappropriate and often times even direct about what she wanted. Zach, her editor, just wanted to get this book done, and if she could, he would publish it. Zach gave her 6 weeks to get her shit together and get it written to his standards.
Without giving away the awesomeness of this book, things are done for the sake of research, things are done for the sake of anger and things are done for the sake of getting things done. All those things equal some fantastic story.
If I continue mentioning a piece here, or a piece there about the book, when you read that section it might make the scene it came from feel tainted. I want you to read it as I did. I want you to love it every minute like I did. I want you to want to read the book again, just like I do.
The Siren is more than the story that Nora is writing. It is more than the story of Nora and Wesley, Nora and Zach, Nora and Soren or even Nora and Kingsly, It is so much more than all the characters combined.
Their actions will make sense. Their decisions will make sense. Their relationships will make sense. And when you read this book and it blows your mind, it will make sense.
Please, Please, Please. I get down on my knees for you and beg that you give The Siren a read. It is part of a series, but this is the first book.
