Party Girl by Rachel Hollis | Author Interview + Review

Party Girl  Synopsis:
Landon Brinkley is making her dreams come true. After years of poring over glossy photos of celebrity parties in People and US Weekly, she’s landed her Holy Grail: an internship with the fabulous Selah Smith, event planner to the Hollywood elite. Moving from small town Texas to Los Angeles, Landon finds herself in a world in which spending a million dollars on an event – even for kids’ birthdays – is de rigueur. The thrill of working on A-list parties and celeb weddings is enough to get her through the 75-hour workweeks, the nightmare of a multi-day film festival, and abuse at the hands of a mercurial boss. But confronted with the seamy realities of the business, she is forced to make a choice: do whatever it takes to get ahead, or stay true to herself.
A roman a clef in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada, PARTY GIRL draws on the author’s real life experience for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the celebrity-obsessed world of event planning. From the party habits of America’s favorite underage singer to the worst Bridezilla of all (the kind that graces the cover of your favorite magazine), PARTY GIRL reveals the ugly side of Hollywood’s prettiest parties.

Interview:
Are you more of an introvert or extrovert? An extrovert, most definitely!

Do you have a book boyfriend and if so, who is it? Hmmm... I know it’s cheesy to name my own character but Brody from Party Girl is based on my husband... So you know I love him! ;)

Favorite drink while working? Caffeine in any shape or form! Most likely to find me sucking down coffee like the antidote is inside.

Cliffhangers or no cliffhangers? (do you like to use them) LOVE a cliffhanger. In fact, my other book I’m writing is a series and the first book ends with a punch-you-in-the-face-cliffhanger... I apologize for it in advance.

Music/TV or Silence? What are you listening to while your write? Music on low. I typically listen to the type of music that fits the scene... So for Landon there was a lot of pop music going on.

What is your guiltiest pleasure? No judging here on Chapter Break. I guess it would be poorly written books. I read constantly (4-5 books a week) and I live for beautifully written prose. But honestly? If you’ve got a storyline involving an alpha male with a tortured back story who is reformed by the love of a good woman... I’m going to read that no matter how bad it is!

What is the best best advice you ever received? Be so good that they can’t ignore you.

What is one thing you do better at than most? Throw a fabulous party.

What is one thing that you do worse at than most? Spelling. Seriously, if it weren’t for spell check... I shutter just to think about it.

Last words or words of encouragement? Anything else we would love to know? I’m one of the biggest book nerds you’ll likely meet... I can say this with the full understanding that anyone reading this post is most likely one too. Being an obsessive reader and actually writing your own book that real people (besides just my mom) will read, is literally a dream come true. A few bloggers have sent me some of their favorite moments or lines from the book on social media and I’ve cried with joy. Every. Single. Time. It is such a big deal for me that people are responding well to the story. It’s my greatest dream realized. Thanks so much for considering Party Girl for your to-read pile... I know how coveted that space is. xo, Rachel
