My Unexpected Forever | Review

Blurb:
I expected a life of music.
I expected to raise my son.
It took one look to make everything change.
I never expected happiness.

I never expected to find her.
I never expected to feel desire.
I never expected I’d be a family man.
I never expected to be loved.
I never expected to fall in love.

They say you should expect the unexpected, I didn’t realize my unexpected would be the forever kind.

Review:
Overall I really liked this book. I felt like it kept me wanting to read more and more. I did find myself having to put the book down a couple of times because the tears just kept coming. It wasn't necessarily a sad book, but I found myself relating to the characters. I'm not sure if it was my hormones, or the writing; hell, lets say it was the writing, but I teared up a lot during this book.
I did not read the previous book, which is recommended. My Unexpected Forever is more of a companion novel, but the cast of characters weave their story throughout the book too. I don't think I missed out on anything not reading the first. I found myself lost sometimes during the story, but I think that was on purpose from the author. You would start wondering about something, going, "did I miss something," then a little later in the story a flashback would happen.
I really enjoyed how the story was told both through Katelyn's and Harrison's point of view. I like that this is a stand-alone and another book won't be coming with a different perspective. It gets a little frustrating that the trend lately has been releasing a book from one perspective, then following up with the other person's. I know that we all yearn to know more, but I felt like the author wrapped this story up nice and neat and more isn't needed.
I felt like this book was long. I didn't know the page count going into the story and kept looking down at my percentage thinking, man, I haven't gotten very far and I have been reading forever. But you know what? It worked. I think the author needed all that time to properly tell the story. There really wasn't a lot of fluff to the story and it was nice and meaty.
There is a time when I was frustrated and thought, oh yeah, seen that coming.... but if that is my only complaint, the author did a fantastic job.
Definitely 4 stars for My Unexpected Forever.

About the Author:

My grandma once told me that I can do anything I want, so I am.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I now live in picturesque Vermont, with my husband and two daughters. Also renting space in our home is an overhyper Beagle/Jack Russell and two Parakeets.

During the day you'll find me behind a desk talking about Land Use. At night, I'm writing one of the many stories I plan to release or sitting courtside during either daughter's basketball games.

I'm also an active reviewer on The Readiacs - a site I own with my best friend and uber special beta, Yvette.
