Torn | Book Review

3.5 stars

Here's a little summary about the book:

Description

Two people with battered souls are thrust together unexpectedly, leaving a profound impact on each other’s lives.
In K.A. Robinson’s USA Today bestselling debut novel, Torn, Chloe hasn’t had the easiest childhood. With a mother who was absent most of the time, she practically had to raise herself. Determined to start a new life and leave her demons behind, she heads to West Virginia University with her best friends Amber and Logan. On the first day of classes, she spots a student who takes her breath away. Drake is a pierced, tattooed bad boy, and no matter how hard she tries to fight it, he’s all she can think about.

Drake has never cared about anyone other than himself, but when Chloe takes the empty seat next to him in class, he is instantly drawn to her. Drake is left wondering whether this girl can take his cold, womanizing heart and alter him forever.

Falling for each other was never a part of their plan, and when it happens, things do anything but fall into place. Long-hidden feelings are revealed and friendships are tested to the brink as Chloe and Drake become helplessly entwined in each other’s love.
My thoughts on the book:
What the book description has left out is that there is a love triangle. I don't feel that by telling you that Chloe's love triangle is with Logan, her best friend and Drake. That is given away fairly early in the book and is quite important to the story. Chloe has to discover who she loved, why she loved them and who she wanted to be with because both boys, of course, want to be with her.
I really felt like Chloe had the best intentions going into this book. I have read several reviews that said she fell into a relationship way to easy, but I don't feel like she did. My thought is she made the best choice out of an impossible situation. As readers, I think some of us always want the heroine to make the choice that Chloe did, but in reality, if this was us, would we have been brave enough to make that choice?
I think Robinson did a great job of creating the dare I say, "typical" college experience where you are learning hard lessons in life, getting a job while going to school, trying to have the college experience, first loves, first independence, first everythings. I felt like that world was very real. Even though Chloe has had to pratically raise her self, she really hasn't been able to experience any of this before.
What the description also fails to go into detail about it how crucial her Mother is to Chloe's behavior. I know, it always comes down to Mommy issues, right? lol
Twisted is the next book in the series, which Mom is very important to the plot. Mother Dearest is with us throughout the book, but in a more "thought" process than in the physical form in Torn. It seems like that might just change, no matter how hard Chloe tries to hide from here in Twisted.
